Observation Narrative
The plot captures a dry oak forest on a sterile ridge crest above Scotts Run. Quercus montana and Q. coccinea share dominance in the overstory, with Kalmia latifolia prevalent in an open shrub layer. There is little oak recruitment present, and saplings of Acer rubrum, Nyssa sylvatica, and Fagus grandifolia are very numerous in the understory. The vegetation is extremely species-poor and no true herbaceous plants are present.
